Grief and Gratitude begin with the same letters "gr". These are very ancient letters in English.
They are found in the Latin word "gravare" which means to make heavy.
"Greave" also was heavy armor worn over the shin and legs. When we feel grief, we feel the heaviness of heart-break, the burden of loss.
Gratitude is the appreciation of someone else carrying a burden for you. Someone else steps in and assumes the necessary work, the needs. A sharing of the load, a match to what is called for.
What is something you would like to let go of, that seems to disturb you or burden you?
What do you grieve that will never return, or be the same?
We will gather together on this day to name a grief, and then inquire into the thinking that can cause us to be unable to relax and be still.
Byron Katie, shockingly, speaks of being grateful for everything that happens. Everything. Even the 'worst" that can happen.
Can we touch our stories with compassion? Can we too feel gratitude for All That Is?
Come explore on this day before Thanksgiving in the USA, no matter what country or culture you're from, and let's do The Work.
“I did The Work, because I was in a hurry.” ~ Byron Katie
People who practice The Work on even the most unbearable losses report finding a resilience and willingness to be with what is that has perhaps always been present--they just didn't realize it.
