Relationships with others. Partners. You can’t live with them, you can’t live without them.
Unless….you question your stories about relationships, and discover the freedom and laughter of not believing what you think.
The Work of Byron Katie begins with finding where you’re disturbed by someone in your life, whether long ago or more recently. The curious thing is, the people who disturb us the most…..may be our most important teachers.
It doesn’t mean we have to like them, or live with them, or work with them, or marry them, or even divorce them….but it sure is more fun if you feel peace in their presence.
Come join Grace, this time with her husband Jon (brilliant facilitator of The Work) to explore deeply held old beliefs about Other People. You do not need to be “in” a committed relationship or bring a lover or partner to this retreat, or to even do your work on a lover, partner, or spouse.
This retreat is for ANYONE you have in mind who drive you nuts, makes you sad, or has sparked loss, regret, anger, rage, fear or trouble of any kind into your experience.
Mother, father, sister, brother, co-worker, boss, neighbor, uncle, aunt, grandpa, grandma, daughter, son, friend.
We’ll start with the first person you feel most troubled by, and dig down into The Work for clarity. We’ll be bringing you some wonderful exercises, gathered from years of personal awareness work, to help you include body, mind, and spirit all into an integrated whole of awareness. We draw from the work of the Gottmans as well as Gay and Katie Hendricks, all with the focus of self-inquiry using The Work of Byron Katie, or Inquiry Based Stress Reduction.
One thing we can’t wait to share: the funny stories we’ve experienced around doing The Work on each other, and the complete shifts, in a matter of one session in The Work from separation and irritation, to joy and appreciation. Being honest about our petty, ridiculous, childish repetitive thoughts can bring the most loving, accepting and mature responses….when we use The Work to question what we think.
The Wonderful News about Winter at Breitenbush:
One of the best things about this time of year at Breitenbush, located deep in the Cascade Mountain Range of Oregon, is how cold it is outside in the forest, and how cozy and brilliantly warm it is inside the cabins, lodge and mineral springs. Bring your boots, toasty sweaters and jackets….and ready yourself for an inner cleansing in the winter as we enter the darkest time of the year in the Pacific Northwest. The dark and quiet will enhance the beauty of the silence and pristine old growth forest.
Each day at Breitenbush begins with a hearty home-cooked vegetarian breakfast of the most delicious organic ingredients. No caffein at Breitenbush, or alcohol or drugs…but many people bring along their french press and ground coffee to keep in the lodge. We’ll meet at 10:00 am, so there’s time for you to make your way after breakfast to one of many options for soaking in the healing mineral waters, or if you prefer, the natural steam sauna. Others may prefer to take a river walk, or a hike through the Emerald Forest. Some may curl up with a book or their personal worksheets from our workshop together to do The Work in their cabins or rooms–all beautifully heated with radiators filled with naturally heated water. We meet from 10 – 12:30 pm.
Midday lunch offers another home cooked delicious meal, organic and vegetarian with several choices (including gluten and dairy free). Ask for a sack lunch the night before and the lodge will make you one, for a midday longer walk. We’ll break until 3:00 pm, so you can enjoy the mineral soaks, and have time to digest your work. Afternoons we meet 3:30 – 5:45 pm then enjoy another fabulous meal from 6-7 pm in the brightly lit winter lodge.
Thursday and Friday nights we meet in the evening, but Saturday night is open for enjoying the land, the hotsprings, or the dance facilitated by Grace and Jon from 7:45-9:15 pm! For those shy or nervous about dancing, we like hosting a small session in self-inquiry on movement, dance and connection with others on the dance floor–another fun way to dissolve stressful beliefs about contact with people and relationships with others.
Sunday morning we relax and meet for our final session at 10:30 am. Everyone stays for lunch who wants to (included in your stay). Some like to add one more quiet night before traveling the next day, but plenty of time to get to Portland airport or anywhere in the northwest via your car.
Breitenbush also has the added bonus of a score of body-workers onsite if you’d like to schedule massage of several varieties. Appointments can be booked several times during the day, and our breaks provide time to do this if you’d like some extra body nurturing.
We can’t wait to share this time in the dark winter forest with friends, hot healing water, and inquiry. Ahhhhhhh.
Frequently Asked Questions:
*Do I need to come with someone else, in order to attend? No. You can come by yourself and bring the thoughts in your head with you–that is plenty, for this work.
*Do I have to work on a current relationship in my life? No. Even relationships from the distant past, you can heal through this process.
*If I come with a partner, or with someone else like a family member, do I need to do The Work ON them, right in front of them? NO. This is not required at all, and Grace and Jon will share their own experience of doing this type of honest work with you, but YOU don’t have to do this work on anyone present.
*If I come with someone important to me, like my partner, can I do The Work on them? Yes. We will help make this a very safe environment for doing this incredible and profound work on someone when the person hears your stressful thoughts about them, if both of you are willing and interested to explore this.

$395 tuition for Thursday – Sunday program (early bird $295 before November 1, 2017).

This is said to be an incredibly inexpensive way to learn, do, and practice The Work in such a beautiful environment. A Gottman 2-day weekend workshop for one couple is $7500. The Hendricks’ weekend is $695 per person. Meeting for 17 hours for individual time in The Work would amount to $2125. Couples therapy ranges from $185-$250 per hour, or around $3500 for this number of hours. The tuition for the early bird fee before November 1st is only $295 (someone said recently “practically free” which made us laugh) and still exceptionally reasonable for $395 after November 1st. Lodging and meals are at winter rates, so it’s an ideal to attend retreat and a wonderful time for getaway and rest.
A magnificent time of year to be at Breitenbush for your personal retreat. The mineral waters are warm and inviting, the beauty of the woods absolutely exquisite with their fresh air and crisp winter glory. Inside the cabins and lodging is extremely cozy warmth. A luscious time of inward reflection and being held in nature, with your thoughts.
